I’m Caleb Lay, the sports reporter at the Daily Star in Hammond, Louisiana. In that role, I cover prep sports, LSU, Southeastern Louisiana University, the Saints and the Pelicans by writing game recaps, analytical pieces, columns and features. I also write a weekly pop culture column for the lifestyle insert of the paper.
Before moving to Hammond, I attended Union University in Jackson, TN where I was the sports editor for the school’s student publication, the Cardinal and Cream. That job led to me falling in love with writing and doing whatever it took to get a good story. I stood in goal for a college soccer practice, letting all manner of hulking kids with great hair and nice cars fire soccer balls at my face. And I played one-on-one with our basketball team’s best player, experiencing what it feels like to be dunked on and then fly head first into the padding on the gym wall.
I’ve written for the Jackson Sun and Sports Illustrated‘s The Cauldron. This site is meant to share the work I’m doing especially since some of my work for the newspaper doesn’t stay online for longer than two weeks.
